Ronnie be Good · Dec 12, 06:20 PM

Ronnie drove me from Ave. J and 12th Street to 131 Atlantic Ave. He is from Georgia (Russia) and he played professional soccer for 25 years in Israel. When he talks about Hanukkah, he’s excited, but then he talks about soccer and he lights up. He was pulling out the sports section of the Russian newspaper and showing me the highlights, drifting into another lane and shouting. He was a leader on his team and I could see why. Ronnie would just go for it. He’d make a U-turn; we’d both be looking out to make sure there were no cops, and as soon as we turned he’d whisper a barely audible, “Thank you God.’ He knew all along that he’d come through though. I knew he would too.
