Young Philosopher Party · Nov 30, 02:02 PM

I’m throwing a party to celebrate the latest issue of Young Philosopher. Come through to Sweet Paradise (14 Orchard St. between Hester and Canal) this Wednesday, December 5th from 6-9 pm.

Pick up an issue then or order one here.

Thanks for coming yesterday. This morning…

The M train was the first to stop at Canal, but the M does not continue past Chambers after 9:30 am, so I got off and waited for a J train to take me to work at Broad Street. Instead of waiting for the J, I walked out of the station towards work but only made it a few steps before I looked at City Hall and a leave-less tree, felt the cold wind on my face, and I just started crying.

Last night was really amazing. I didn’t eat anything and I didn’t have a drink until the party was almost over because I was so nervous. I shouldn’t have been. I have great friends and amazing people in my life and that’s why Young Philosopher is so good. It’s not just me making it, ever. No one gets paid; we only lose money. But, people are willing to spend time sharing others’ stories through photos and text. I love it. We could be making this project in some form in 1700 or 2007. It’s not hip. It’s just here.

People flew and drove in from Chicago. My parents came through from New Jersey and my mom didn’t stop cutting food and making plates the whole night. J. Naughton played my favorite records. Brueger showed love. Rob Perri who made the film I’m Keith Hernandez flew in from Los Angeles. He’s featured in the latest issue. Almost everyone I could have wanted to see rolled through. I can name some more names tomorrow but I gotta meet Joe Nakis before he flies back to Chicago.

Sean Thomas made this magazine. Blake T. got the first ad. Trent made the t-shirts. Ben Lebovitz made the website. Brueger and Naughton kept it going and all of you do the rest.

Thanks so much.

  1. Mr Albin, wish i could be there, but Nakis didn’t get me a ticket. Congrats on the release and let me know when you want to start distributing out here at the edge of the Great Basin. Make sure Joe doesn’t get too crazy out there, the guy’s a real beast when he drinks.
