Who eats better j. naughton or albin? · Nov 12, 06:49 PM

The contest began with a phone call from Jimmy. He told me that he was
going to two church breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday where he’d be
eating pancakes and eggs and juice. I remembered that I can’t remember the last time I ate a hot breakfast. In fact, the best meal I’d had in
the last two weeks was a store bought rotisserie chicken and reheated
soy beans and a tomato, that I ate with my dad. Jimmy was going to these church breakfasts because he is a photographer for a newspaper in Queens and he was
going on assignment. The whole church breakfast idea reminded me I have not been taking care of myself at all,
keeping a steady diet of cereal, pretzels, and beer. I also drink a lot of water
and the fruit and vegetables on the street in Chinatown keep me
going
but I’ve got to eat better.
I challenged Jimmy, let’s see who eats better this week. My advantage
started early, I was heading to my parent’s place in New Jersey for my dad’s birthday.

Here’s the cake

Friday

dinner
Gin Martini
Lettuce, tomato, cauliflower, advocado salad
spaghetti with meatballs and sausage sauce
A couple glasses of red wine
Harvey Wallbanger cake, 2 piece
glass of Fernet

Saturday

breakfast
Grapenuts, strawberries, rasberries, half a banana
1 piece of Harvey Wallbanger cake

snack
I ate an apple while my brother was collecting his pass for the bus that would take him to the starting line of the marathon in Staten Island.

lunch at Spotted Pig with my brother Chris
Cuban Sandwich with side of arugula
2 pints of Spotted Pig Bitter

snack
24 oz. can of Modelo. Hung out with my brother and his friend Dave Volk who was in town for the race. We drank some beers and I gave them “The Crib” tour of my apartment,
played music for them and showed them photos. And I showed them I’m Keith Hernandez the short film by Rob Perri
who I interview in the next issue of Young Philosopher, issue number eight. Buy Here

dinner
La Mela the bartender
talked Dave into shots of Baby Guinness and Baby Beer. Chris and I steered clear.
lots of red wine
lots of bread and olive oil
picked at ravioli’s, mozarella and tomatoes and basil, gnocci

Sunday – NYC marathon

breakfast
Grapenuts with protein powder and almond milk

snack
half a PowerBar, half an apple

lunch
none

dinner at Zucco’s Le French Diner
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. Small, good food, hassle free
red wine
escargot
Tuna Nicoise Salad

“snack” at Sin Sin
too many glasses of Jameson and bottles of Stella and shots of some red drink. I was reminded of using a forged Brit Rail Pass then taking a ferry to Ireland but the ferry was delayed 12 hours and I was reading Ulysses and going crazy.
When I meet up with Brendan Galvin in Ireland we went to some terrible disco at 3 a.m. and he bought us pints of Budweiser and shots of After Shock. Sippin’ on Sizizurrrup.
Jimmy and Dave are playing records at Sin Sin every other Sunday. This will
be a dangerous evening. I went with only $8.00 in my pocket but drinks
kept showing up. See you at Sin Sin this Sunday, November 18th.

Monday

breakfast
apple

lunch
banana
2 tangerines
handful of almonds

dinner
pretzels
Butternut Squash soup Whitney D. dropped off at my house. So sweet. I eat most of my meals alone but this one didn’t feel alone. Thanks Whitney.

1 glass of Fernet before bed. I stayed in this evening working on an essay.

Tuesday

breakfast
Grapenuts, protein powder and Almond milk

lunch at Spotted Pig
Lentil and arugula salad. best thing I’ve had that wasn’t home cooked
in a long time
a few pints of Spotted Pig Bitter which merited a nap afterwards.

dinner
Plate of sliced up organic tomato and a scoop of Cottage Cheese and a
bunch of Radiccio

snack #1
a couple pints of Sixpoint Righteous Ale at Drop Off Service with Jimmy, yes the Jimmy I am in competition with.

Late Night

I saw American Gangster and drank a couple Budweisers and ate half a hot pretzel.

*stayed up until past 5 am for no good reason, just writing and going
through my files

Wednesday

breakfast
Grapenuts, protein powder, almond milk

lunch
2 slices of Grandma’s pizza from my favorite pizza spot in NYC
tangerine
piece of carmel

snackish at La Esquina
1 advocado taco
1 Elotes

El Quixote
1 Manhattan

Party
a few pita chips with artichoke dip
tons of delicious red wine

drink at Circus
beer

Rudy’s
beer
too many hotdogs

Socialista
beer

Thursday

breakfast/lunch at Pita Express
Falafel sandwich
some chips
Dr. Brown’s diet soda, so disgusting. I drink, at the most, 5 sodas per year and I got this one because I was out all night with Nick who was visiting from London.
My mind wasn’t working properly. Check out Nick’s music. He was in town to play a show at Parkside.
The show was awesome. I’ll put up a couple videos later in the week.
Check out his band Bachelor Jack and listen to Your Silver.

after work at Pussycat
one beer

dinner at Ear Inn
Chili shrimp, shared
garden salad
split pea soup
beers

Spotted Pig
bottle of proseco

third floor of Spotted Pig
a handful of potato chips a few beers
danced a bunch

Friday

breakfast
cup of coffee

lunch
banana
apple

That’s it. That’s the week. Check out J. Naughton’s food and see who you think wins. There is no clear cut criteria for what constitutes better in this contest, but I think Jimmy did.
